Looking back at the first quarter of the Centrum české dětské knihy (Czech Children's Book Centre)

The Centre for Centrum české dětské knihy (Czech Children's Book Centre) (CČDK), which is a project of the association Knižní stezka k dětem (Book Trail to Children), started its operation on the 15th of September 2022 at Jánský vršek 5 in Prague 1. The aim is to support children's artistic creation and children's reading. The Centre's activities include workshops, art workshops, exhibitions and events for adult audiences. From September to December, several events for children took place, including book launches, art workshops and discussions with authors. On the 3rd of November 2022, we held an opening conference at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway, which featured speakers and experts in children's and young adult literature - Jana Čeňková, Julie Dominika Zemanová, Veronika Benešová Hudečková, as well as Norwegian publisher Svein Størksen. We ended 2022 with a successful workshop connected with the book Jezevec Chrujda (Badger Chrujda) is looking for treasure and an exhibition of Jiří Sopek's illustrations for the book Pižďuchové.

In the spring of 2023, the CČDK will move to a new address at 7 Vratislavova Street in Prague 2 near Výtoň. This space will offer more opportunities for events for children and adult audiences, including exhibitions. In 2023, we will also launch a series of workshops for adults, and not only for aspiring writers and illustrators who want to create books for children and young people. The series will be called Master Class and there will be a total of 24 evenings with experienced writers and illustrators. A conference for educators will be held in the fall.

The project " Centrum české dětské knihy (Czech Children's Book Centre)", reg. no. KU-CA2-029, is supported by the EEA Grants 2014-2021 under the Culture Programme.
